ATLANTA, GA (August 20, 2010) – As one of the city’s most significant in-town neighborhood organizations, the Morningside-Lenox Park Association continues to be a pillar of strength for Atlanta’s favorite historic neighborhood.  In order to increase awareness and raise funds to protect some of the area’s most beloved landmarks, the association will host two events in October.  A new event, the Morningside Cooks Tour, will be held on October 16, and the third annual Monumental Ball will be held on October 29.

A portion of the funds raised from ticket sales for these events will benefit the restoration and repair of the historic Ivey and Crook monuments that enhance the charm of the Morningside-Lenox Park area.  Ivey and Crook, a historic architectural firm, enjoyed much acclaim during its reign as one of the area’s leading firms from 1923 to 1967.  The partners created the classical brick pillars, topped with ornate urns, to mark major streets in Atlanta’s premier in-town community.  And with the addition of the Morningside Cooks Tour, some revenue will also benefit the Morningside Security Patrol, helping to ensure the community continues to be a safe, family-friendly area to live, work and play.

Honorary hosts for both events are Kevin and Melissa Rathbun.  A respected hospitality veteran, Kevin Rathbun has been in the restaurant industry for more than 30 years.  In 2004, he opened his namesake restaurant in Atlanta, Rathbun’s, then Krog Bar in 2005 and Kevin Rathbun Steak in 2007; he plans to announce the name of a new restaurant very soon.  Today, Rathbun continues to be a pivotal and driving force in the local and national restaurant scene.

The Morningside Cooks Tour will be held from Saturday, October 16, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., throughout various neighborhood abodes.

Tour participants will be welcomed into five fine homes in historic Morningside-Lenox Park.  Attendees will also enjoy the tasty culinary creations of various chefs from favorite restaurants in the area, including Rathbun’s, D.B.A. Barbecue, Rosebud and NAKATO.  Tickets for the Morningside Cooks Tour are $25 until September 15, 2010 and $30 thereafter.
