Georgia’s most promising musicians take to the stage for statewide chamber competition Competition and Awards Concert set for Memorial Day weekend

Music lovers can delight in Georgia’s most talented young musicians as they compete in the acclaimed Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition on May 24, 2020, at Spivey Hall, one of the nation’s most exceptional facilities in acoustics and design. Over 40 pre-college instrumentalists in a variety of ensembles will compete for cash prizes and the chance to share the stage with some of the nation’s top professionals at the 4 p.m. Awards concert.
“Judge for yourself by attending the live final round at 11 a.m. Then follow your favorite finalists to the 4 p.m. Awards Concert, featuring performances by the High School and Middle School Grand Prize winners, to see who comes out on top with cash prizes,” said Ginny Fairchild, competition manager. “All around, it’s an awesome day of music-making!”
Finalists are determined by a distinguished national panel of judges, including Carlos Izcaray, Music Director of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Richard Roberts, Concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Elizabeth Pridgen, concert pianist and Artistic Director of Atlanta Chamber Players. All three judges and the Franklin Pond Players, comprised of members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, will perform with the winners at the final awards concert.
“Classical music is a hugely competitive field, one in which musicians must take every opportunity to stand out among their peers, strengthen performance skills, and showcase their talents,” said Fairchild. “The Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition gives students across Georgia a chance to shine in front of three world-renowned judges—a concertmaster, an orchestral music director, and a concert pianist—any of whom could one day have an influence on the students’ careers.”
The annual day of competition is hosted by Franklin Pond Chamber Music, a non-profit that provides year-round chamber music instruction for talented string students. Tickets are $10 at the door to the Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition Awards Concert, 4 pm Spivey Hall at Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow. Free parking.
