Description

Bridgette's Freedom Party: A Celebration of Black Liberation!

Event Details

Bridgette Simpson is a formerly incarcerated Black woman and the lead community organizer for Women on the Rise, an organization leading the campaign to repurpose the Atlanta City Detention Center into a Center for Equity. Bridgette was released from prison on March 30, 2018 after being incarcerated for ten years, and on Monday, September 2, 2019 she officially gained her full freedom with the end of her parole!
On Friday, September 27th we will be throwing a Freedom Party to celebrate Bridgette! Food, wine and beer will be provided. The theme is "Black Resistance" and we ask that all guests dress in black for the event. A short program will take place at 9 pm. We invite all who are Black or Black-affirming to join us for this celebration.

IMPORTANT: In an effort to celebrate Bridgette's freedom without adding to the cost that she's already paid for it, we are asking for donations! The party will be both a celebration of her resilience and the history of Black resistance to imprisonment and state violence. Entrance to the event is free but we request that you make a donation to support her work liberating other incarcerated women.
