Description
Coro Vocati gives a voice to the voiceless in their fall performance, with the music of silenced voices from around the world.
Event Details
Professional chamber choir Coro Vocati begins its tenth anniversary season this fall with “Can You Hear Me?”, a special concert focused on giving a voice to the voiceless and disenfranchised. Featuring music from around the world, the program explores the voices of those oppressed by culture, religion, prejudice, health, socio-economic conditions, class status, or political power.
While “Can You Hear Me?” conveys the angst of the marginalized, the program emphasizes the powerful themes of joy and hope through folk dance rhythms, percussive instruments and physical movement. Performed in 11 languages, the concert takes audiences on a global musical journey through songs from Ireland, Iran, India, Estonia, Ecuador, Taiwan and Bulgaria.
Among the many selections to be performed is Jake Runestad’s recently commissioned piece, “A Silence Haunts Me.” This compelling work explores the silent world of the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven, as he struggled to make sense of his own hearing loss.
This program will be performed twice, on Saturday, September 28 at 7pm at Marietta First United Methodist Church, and again on Sunday, September 29 at 3pm at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.
