Description
NPU Initiative: September Working Session
Event Details
The Center for Civic Innovation recently launched the NPU Initiative – an independently-led, multi-year study and review of the city’s historic Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) system.
As we continue with the NPU Initiative, we want to make sure that we stay aware of other initiatives to increase citizen participation in the city of Atlanta.
Join us on Saturday, September 28th at noon, where we will be joined by Leah LaRue, the Interim Assistant Director of the NPU Team with the City of Atlanta. Leah will be sharing more information about City Hall's role in the NPU system and what their projects regarding the NPU system entail.
Want to participate but feel like you need to get up to speed on NPUs and the NPU Initiative first? Feel free to join us early at 11:30 am so we can fill you in on the basics.
About the NPU Initiative
The Center for Civic Innovation believes that if we strengthen systems of local engagement where people’s voices and ideas are heard, we will improve trust and have programs and services that better reflect the needs of people.
While the City of Atlanta has seen a lot of change since Mayor Maynard Jackson took office in 1974, its formal community engagement system of Neighborhood Planning Units has not. As noted in the Atlanta City Design, Resilient Atlanta strategy, the Community Development & Human Services Committee’s 2018 Goals & Objectives, and the new HouseATL recommendations, our NPU system needs evaluation.
CCI is launching the NPU Initiative to conduct a multi-year study and review of the Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) system. The NPU system was created to empower Atlanta residents to learn about and engage with the city’s planning and budget processes to improve the future of their neighborhoods and the city as a whole. We will evaluate the current state of this system and advocate for ways to strengthen it.
