Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports A .500 week for the defending champs 2024 Season Record: 15-14 2024 Series Record: 4-4, 1 split GAME 24: 0-4 Loss vs Seattle Mariners Not much to talk about in this game as the Rangers were being no-hit into the fourth inning and after getting their first hit, only managed two for the rest of the game. GAME 25: 5-1 Win vs Seattle Mariners A much better game all around for Texas. Pitching wise, Jon Gray went 4.2 innings and gave up just the one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. Jonathan Hernandez was activated off the injured list and pitched 1.1 hitless innings, giving up just one walk and striking out one. He got the win for this game. Evan Carter got a home run and went two-for- four which was encouraging to see after a three strikeout game the night previous. Wyatt Langford went three-for-three with a walk. He easily had a triple in his first at-bat but a snipe caught him rounding second and he got caught stranded in no-man’s land. GAME 26: 3-4 Loss vs Seattle Mariners Davis Wendzel finally got his first major league hit in this game! He came into the game in the eighth inning pinch hitting for Evan Carter, and with two outs singled on a sharp line drive to left field. Andrew Heaney started this game and at the beginning, it did not seem like a game he would be making it deep in. However, he did go six innings, giving up all four Seattle runs on five hits striking out seven and walking none. Cole Winn came on in relief of Heaney and pitched two perfect innings and Josh Sborz followed that with a perfect inning of his own. The Ranger bats just couldn’t manage to pick them up. GAME 27: 2-1 Win vs Cincinnati Reds A solo home run by Carter in the second inning and a solo home run by Marcus Semien in the eighth was all the Rangers needed to secure a win in the weekend series opener. Nathan Eovaldi pitched a solid game but left with a no-decision. He went six innings and gave up just one run on three hits and struck out eight. It is surprising that only one run scored however because he walked five. The bullpen once again pitched three perfect innings. GAME 28: 4-8 Loss vs Cincinnati Reds Texas waited until the ninth inning to almost make a comeback. Going into the inning losing 8-0, the Rangers at least made it interesting. Leody Taveras started the inning with a single. And Wendzel being fresh off getting his first career hit decided he might as well get his first home run out of the way too. Then Corey Seager decided to get himself a birthday home run. Josh Smith later doubled to get Nathaniel Lowe in to score. And that’s where it ends. So at least it wasn’t a shutout. Michael Lorenzen went six innings and gave up five runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout. José Ureña was the only relief pitcher used, pitching the final three innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk. GAME 29: 4-3 Win vs Cincinnati Reds Dane Dunning and Langford had themselves a game! Dunning pitched 4.1 perfect innings but overall went 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on three hits and no walks. He also had an incredible 10 strikeouts. It’s only five starts into the season but this was one of his best starts. With a well rested bullpen and an off day Monday, it seemed Bruce Bochy was quick to pull Dunning at the first sign of shakiness. Finally the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Wyatt Langford’s first home run of his career!! And of course he sure made it worth the wait with an inside-the-park homer! Every angle of @langford_wyatt's first homer. pic.twitter.com/RUgyFwIjz3— Texas Rangers (@Rangers) April 29, 2024
