Talking Chop has new update

12 hours ago Report: Braves have shown interest in Tyler Glasnow
Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports
Braves are looking high and low for rotation upgrades. With the Winter Meetings winding down and the Braves still looking for rotation help, the rumors have kept coming. Late Wednesday night another one dropped:
Braves, Dodgers Have Shown Interest In Tyler Glasnow https://t.co/99PjosQZxT pic.twitter.com/qvED8Z15kw— MLB Trade Rumors (@mlbtraderumors) December 7, 2023
There’s been speculation all off-season the Rays are looking cut payroll because, well it’s the Rays and that’s what they do. Glasnow, 30, is an obvious candidate because one, he’s very expensive next year with a salary of $25M, and two, because 2024 is his last season under contract. And since the Rays have very little chance of re-signing him next winter, trading him sometime before then to get some sort of return makes a certain degree of sense.
For the Braves, the fit isn’t a perfect one. With the looming exits of both Max Fried and Charlie Morton, acquiring another starter who could be walking out the door at season’s end isn’t an ideal scenario. Atlanta almost certainly would prefer adding someone with multiple years of team control to stagger the number of rotation spots they’d have to fill in one off-season. Glasnow would no doubt give them a formidable rotation next year when paired with Fried, Morton, and Spencer Strider, so it certainly makes sense to at least check in and weigh the price.
The off-season started with a plethora of options the Braves could target in their rotation but a number of those targets have already signed elsewhere. Aaron Nola, Sonny Gray, Eduardo Rodrigues, Kenta Made, Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson have all signed free agent contracts this winter, while names like Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are likely out of the Braves’ price range. Dylan Cease has been a popular name on the trade market but the White Sox are taking the process of moving him slow and reportedly are being very ambitious in their asking pice. The Braves had acquired Marco Gonzalez in the Jarred Kelenic deal with Seattle that could've added some rotation depth, but they immediately flipped him to Pittsburgh to clear out his salary.
The expectation around the club is they would like to add another substantial starting pitcher to the roster this winter, and thus, the Glasnow rumors.
