Description

Georgia’s most promising young musicians take center stage for statewide chamber competition

Event Details

Georgia’s most gifted young musicians will compete in the esteemed Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at 11 am at Spivey Hall, with the Awards Concert following at 4pm. Over 30 pre-college instrumentalists in various chamber ensembles will contend for cash prizes and the chance to perform alongside world-renowned professionals. Both events are free and open to the public.

“The Competition and Awards Concert is a dazzling assembly of Georgia’s most exceptional young talent performing in one of the nation’s top acoustic spaces. When you add the globally acclaimed Dali Quartet, who will judge the Competition and perform at the Awards Concert, you wind up with a pretty spectacular day,” said Ginny Fairchild, Competition Manager. “And for audiences, it’s family-friendly, fun, and free—a great way to spend a Sunday!”

The Dali Quartet, known for its “classical roots and Latin soul,” is a Philadelphia-based ensemble with close ties to Atlanta. They have performed and presented masterclasses on several occasions around the city. The four ensemble members are uniquely suited for this event with a distinguished reputation in both performance and music education.

The weekend of Competition is hosted by Franklin Pond Chamber Music, an educational non-profit that has provided chamber music instruction to skilled string students for over 20 years. The FPCM Competition is in its sixth year and is the only event of its kind in the Southeast. “Classical music is a hugely competitive field. Musicians must take every opportunity to stand out among their peers, strengthen performance skills, and showcase their talents,” said Fairchild. “The Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition gives students across Georgia a chance to shine in front of world-renowned judges—any of whom could one day influence the students’ careers.”

Both the 11am Competition and 4pm Awards Concert are free; tickets reservations are required for the Awards Concert. Call 678-466-4200 or visit spiveyhall.org for tickets.
