Georgia’s most promising musicians take to the stage for statewide music competition
Event Details
Music lovers can delight in Georgia’s most talented young musicians as they compete LIVE in the acclaimed Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Audiences are invited to attend the 11 a.m. Live Final Round as well as the 4 p.m. Awards Concert. A variety of ensembles will compete for cash prizes and the chance to share the stage with some of the nation’s top professionals.
“We are so thrilled to be able to hold this year’s Competition live. The students who enter are the state’s top young instrumentalists, and for the past year they have been working diligently in isolation. Now, thanks to responsible social distancing and the beautiful, spacious sanctuary at Peachtree Road Methodist, these deserving young musicians can finally showcase their hard work and talent in front of a live audience.” said Ginny Fairchild, Competition Director. “We are excited beyond measure!”
Finalists are determined by a distinguished national panel of judges, including William Fred Scott, former Music Director of The Atlanta Opera and Chanticleer; Elizabeth Pridgen, concert pianist and Artistic Director of Atlanta Chamber Players; and Sergiu Schwartz, Professor of Violin at Columbus State University. The judges will join the faculty of Franklin Pond in a performance at the 4 p.m. Awards Concert. The winners of the Competition will also perform at the Awards Concert.
“Classical music is a hugely competitive field, one in which musicians must take every opportunity to stand out among their peers, strengthen performance skills, and showcase their talents,” said Fairchild. “The Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition gives students across Georgia a chance to shine in front of three world-renowned judges—any of whom could one day have an influence on the students’ careers.”
The annual day of competition is hosted by Franklin Pond Chamber Music, a non-profit organization providing year-round chamber music training for talented young musicians with faculty from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and The Atlanta Opera. Both the 11 a.m. Final Round and the 4 p.m. Awards Concert will be held at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, Atlanta.
