Memorial Day can be a special time for families to spend together. There are a variety of fun activities to take advantage of in the Atlanta area as well as opportunities to pay tribute to the individuals who have served our country. 

Atlanta residents can take advantage of the great natural surroundings on Memorial Day. Here is our list of some of the top things to do on Memorial Day in Atlanta:

Stone Mountain Park  

The largest Memorial Day Weekend event is held at Stone Mountain Park. The attractions at the park are open on Memorial Day from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the weekend is capped with a laser show and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. 

The evening show will pay tribute to all who have served, and all on active duty, veterans and retired military receive one free All-Attraction Pass. Throughout the day, visitors to Stone Mountain can enjoy all the great activities that are regularly offered. 

Callaway Gardens

The Callaway Gardens Memorial Day Festival wages on all weekend with a bevy of family activities along Robin Lake Beach. There will be live music, activities on the beach, and kid zones to keep everyone entertained.

The festival also features great food and drink specials. The highlight of Memorial Day Weekend at Callaway Gardens is the Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament, which is exciting to watch!

Atlanta Jazz Festival  

The Atlanta Jazz Festival is a staple of Memorial Day Weekend in Atlanta. People flood into Piedmont Park on Saturday and Sunday to listen to over 100 jazz performers at the free event. 

There is also a youth jazz band competition, kids play area, and other family-friendly activities. The Atlanta Jazz Festival has been running since 1977, and legends like Miles Davis, Dizzie Gillespie, and Nina Simone have performed in the past. 

Brew at the Zoo

Zoo Atlanta offers one of the more popular Memorial Day weekend traditions in the city with Brew at the Zoo. While viewing all the incredible wildlife at the zoo is an experience in itself, attendees also get to choose from over 70 beers and a limited selection of wine while walking through the park at this event. 

Several live music acts perform throughout the zoo as well. VIP early entry for Brew at the Zoo runs from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the main events takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
