Description
Community/fundraising benefitting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Event Details
The Out of the Darkness Walk is a free event to attend. The resource fair and registration begin at 12pm. We encourage attendees to stop by the AFSP Store for merchandise, visit the photo booth, visit our community resource and sponsor tables, arts and crafts area, and more! Participants are encouraged to stop by the honor bead booth to pick up the bead color(s) that represent your connection to the cause.
Opening ceremonies include speakers who inform participants about the work that AFSP completes with the help of donors and participants. There will be a dove release in honor of those lost to suicide. After opening ceremonies conclude, the walk will begin. The walk route for Atlanta is contained inside Piedmont Park and is an estimated 1.86 miles. This is a non-competitive walk, not a run. Participants are invited to register and join even if they cannot/chose not to walk.
This year is the 20th Out of the Darkness Walk in Atlanta. The Community Walks, held in hundreds of communities across the country, are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost.
This is a free event to attend. Registration and fundraising are not required but are encouraged. Register as an individual, form or join a team. Can't make it to the walk? Register as a Virtual Participant and support from afar.
